ANDOVER, MA — Sunday’s Run for the Troops was a booming success, to say the least.

According to race organizer Bill Pennington, approximately 3,900 people participated in the 8th annual race, and a few thousand more watched. Of those who participated, about 400 were veterans.

“People will really do anything to support troops,” Pennington said. “This is a prime example of that.”

When Pennington coordinated the first Run for the Troops, only 100 or 200 people participated. This year, Pennington projected that the race raised somewhere around $60,000 in support of veterans’ groups.
